Black & White Series

Lithography

The Black & White series, part of the wild water collection for 2022, features Lino cuts that were used to create figurative pieces of the artist’s swimming friends while keeping their identity, sexuality, and race undisclosed. The balance in the pieces takes into consideration the place within identity. The water, which is always present, suggests several connotations related to all the above themes and how it is visualized to the viewer. Water is ever-present in all the pieces of work, which in relation to identity and place can be representational for everyone. The artist expressed a lot of emotions with these simplistic tile cuts and wanted to explore the dimensions further.

The artist then experimented with screen printing the tile cuts onto fabric associated with swimming costumes, wet suits, dry robes, and tried out the effects of using thermogenic inks that are revealed in water. Testing simple fabric medium onto t-shirts seemed to work very well, and friends now want to wear them! The artist called this collection ‘Nipples & Ripples’ which could become a brand in its own right
